| Great Western Railway No. 9017 (sometimes 3217) the 4-4-0 Earl of Berkeley. This class of locomotives was nicknamed "Dukedog" because the GWR cobbled them together from the frames of Bulldog class locos and the boilers of Duke class engines. The resultant locomotives, while occasionally temperamental, served for many years on the GWR. |
