MNCR 8446 is the trailing car in the consist. Note the orange grounding pole to the right of the work crew. Also visible directly below the "S" sign is the trailing edge of the automatic derail. Just past the curve at the top of the photo is the Norwalk River bridge which is protected with derails on both sides to prevent a train from plunging through the open draw. Better a train on the ground than one in the water, which did happen at this bridge in 1853. |
